UNIT REPORTS FOR
INCOMING CHAPTER PRESIDENTS
Almost every active professional chapter and subdivision was
represented at Leadership in 2007. In order to make sure that we
hear from everyone and that we can maintain communication between
the state board and the units. Please see the UNIT REPORT FORM for
2007-2008 on page10 & 11. Many of you have already submitted these
forms with your BOARD ROSTER and ASSURANCES. If you have submitted
them, thank you very much. If you haven’t, please send to June
Logue,
loguej@paec.org as soon as possible. Please include your
contact information.

The Florida CEC Pioneers Division
Ever wonder if you could be a CEC Pioneer?
Membership is open to anyone who has been a member of CEC for 20
years or more, as well as retired members, life members and past
presidents of CEC. Sooo… if you joined CEC in 1987 or before, you
could be a CEC Pioneer!
Ever wonder if you should be a CEC Pioneer? The
mission of CEC Pioneers is to retain and benefit from the leadership
and expertise of long-term CEC members. Luckily Florida is one of
only six states and one Canadian province that have a CEC Pioneers
sub-division. Sooo… if you want to be in the ranks of other leaders
and experts in the field of special education such as yourself, you
should be a CEC Pioneer!
To do so, simply call CEC toll free at
888-232-7733 and pay the remarkable low price of $10.00 to join. We
look forward to seeing your name on our membership list! Please
accept the sincere thanks of our officers— President- Elect Lispbeth
Gets, Treasurer Landis Stetler, Membership Chair Susan Poston and
me.

As local co-chairpersons for the 2007 FCEC
Conference held at the Bahia Mar in Sunny Ft. Lauderdale, we want to
say thank you for coming out and enjoying the rich conference with
dynamic keynote and guest speakers like Dr. Tom E.C. Smith, Dr.
Janette Klingner, Dr. Robert Pasternak, Dr. Jacqueline Thousand, Dr.
Richard Villa, Dr. Ann Nevin, Dr. Louie F. Rodriguez, Dr. Joan
Wynne, and Dr. Marilyn Jager-Adams. In conjunction with the invited
presenters, we had an amazing array of presenters as well on hot
topics like Response to Intervention, Inclusive Practices, Reading
Strategies. Our technology strand was top notch – we know you took
back some great ideas and knowledge on programs to implement in the
classroom. Kudos to all, especially our local chapter for putting
together what we know to be a dynamic conference!

ALL-STAR
TEACHERS |

Gayle Zavala
Chapter #200
Marjorie Crick Teacher of the Year |
|
This is part of an occasional series on
members of the 2007 All-USA Teacher Team, USA TODAY's recognition
program for outstanding K-12 teachers. |
|
 |
After 22 years at
Gove Elementary and many teaching awards, Zavala, 55, can turn almost
anything into a learning opportunity for her developmentally
disadvantaged students. In making muffins, they use reading, math, and
social cooperation. They must follow directions and delay gratification,
important lessons in baking or life.
